Breaking Boundaries : Innovation in medical education

Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre, Manchester 12 & 13 Feb 2003

Personal report by Rod Ward

As usual with these reports it is being written "on the fly", to be of interest to those who could not attend & is by no means an official or formal report. I aplogise for any typos or other errors.

Venue

The conference was held at the Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre, Manchester which provided good food in "the conservatory" which was a very pleasant environment and there was some interesting company.

Much of the networking took place outside amongst the smokers.

Travel

I set off on the 07.46 train from Loughborough & changed at Sheffield on the way to Manchester for a taxi to the venue, arriving with just enough time to try to struggle to connect my laptop to the university network - and failing :-(

The journey back started with a taxi ride shared by 5 of us to the station, one of which was a real technophile & demoed his new mobile phone by taking this picture of me & emailing it from the taxi (thanks s.richardson@unist - sorry didn't get your first name). The train journey was reasonably rapid & uneventful even with 2 changes.

Conference Dinner etc.

The dinner was held in a dining room described by one delegate as an engine shed - but very pleasant with an after dinner speech by Paul Basich (Sheffield Hallam University & UKeU) which unfortunately failed to rivet the audience. It was followed by drinks and discussion in the bar.
